Velo Orange Holiday Gift Guide

by Scott Gater

As the year winds down, the tradition of gift-giving between family and friends comes to the forefront once again. To help make the season brighter, we’ve curated a list of items that we think cyclists would love to give and receive. From practical tools to fun accessories, there’s something here for everyone:

1. Visto Safety Triangle

In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the time of darkness, mist, and reduced visibility. These reflective triangles—available in two sizes—are an excellent addition to any bike. They can be attached to the back of a saddle, a saddlebag, or even a backpack. (I keep a mini one on my running pack as a backup safety measure!) With a variety of colors to choose from, there’s a perfect match for every style.

2. Equipt Sardine Multi-Tool

This fantastic little multi-tool is an elegant alternative to traditional square-shaped tools. It includes 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm hex heads, as well as a Torx bit commonly used on disc brake rotors. Weighing just 36 grams, it comes in four colors to match or contrast with any bike or rider’s color scheme. Plus, it includes a mount for attaching to bottle cage bosses—perfect for those who prefer to keep their tools out of their bags.

3. Blue Lug Crank Caps

These crank caps add a stylish touch to any modern crankset. Choose silver for a seamless match or brass for a striking contrast. Not only do they look great, but they’re also self-extracting—eliminating the need for a crank puller. (Note: These aren’t compatible with older TA or Stronglight cranks.)

4. VAR Nylon Tire Levers

Super durable, lightweight, and easy to store, these tire levers are a must-have for any cyclist. The bright colors make them easy to spot in the depths of a saddlebag or randonneur bag. While they won’t prevent flats, having these on hand will make tire changes a breeze.

5. Opinel Stainless Steel Knife

It wouldn’t be a gift list without an Opinel knife! We’ve been selling these iconic knives for over a decade, and their popularity hasn’t waned. The #8 knife in stainless steel now comes with a range of colorful handle options, including green, blue, red, black, and natural wood. The resilient stainless blade is perfect for all sorts of chopping and cutting tasks. It's also available in a slightly larger No.10 which includes a corkscrew!

6. VO Camper Hat

These brushed cotton caps are perfect for keeping the sun off your head, lounging post-ride, or sipping a seltzer by the campfire. The adjustable buckle ensures a great fit.

7. Camp Snap Camera

This compact, retro-style camera has been one of our biggest hits this year. With a simple viewfinder and no LCD screen, it’s a simple point-and-click device—perfect for weddings, vacations, or introducing kids to photography. It’s a nostalgic nod to the 90s and a fun way to capture memories.

8. VO Juiciest Valve Caps

What more can you say about a valve cap that adds a burst of personality to your bike? Available in Presta or Schrader versions, these colorful caps are great for road bikes, beach cruisers, or even your car—because why shouldn’t your Corolla stand out in the parking lot?

9. Tortoise and Hare Touring Poster

When they aren't racing, the tortoise and hare love cycle touring. This image was created by Baltimore artist Kate Haberer.

10. Runwell 15mm Wrench

Simply put, this is likely the nicest 15mm wrench you can buy for your track bike. The handle features a three-dimensional, vertical-to-horizontal taper so that the head is extremely strong while the handle has a flat section to minimize any pain or discomfort associated with tightening track nuts. Additionally, the head features a 15° angle, so you don't pinch your fingers between the fork blade and wrench.

11. VO Gift Certificate

Guaranteed to fit! Shopping for someone else but not sure how to outfit their bike? Give them the gift of choice with a Velo Orange gift card. Gift cards are delivered by email and contain instructions on how to redeem them at checkout.
