Trekking handlebars are very popular in Europe. In some areas of Northern Europe half the cyclists seem to use them! Their advantages include multiple hand positions that suit both road and off-road riding and a variety of possible brake lever and shifter positions.

The wide position is great for climbing and allows for good control over rough terrain, especially when heavily loaded.

Great Bars

Have had these bars for about 8 yrs on old city/trail bike. LOVE the multiple positions esp for those 50 mile days. Highly recommend.

Euro Stylin' and oh so practical

Got these for a 90s hybrid that's becoming a touring bike. Lots more positions than the flat bar which was there, some of them a little kooky feeling at first but overall very ergonomic.

There is some flex if you're putting down the hammer in certain positions, but it's a looooong bar so that's to be expected. Put thick foam tape on this sucka - between that and the flex, a lot of road noise gets dampened out.

Decent

I rode with these for about a year. I did a 90 mile gravel race with them and a little bike packing, in addition to casual rides etc. Honestly, I don’t like them. I got them because I’m a comfort junkie when it comes to bikes and will almost always go with the most comfortable option when given the choice. I was excited at the prospect of lots of hand positions and really wanted them to be as comfortable as they seem in concept. In reality, the hand positions all felt the same. They all seemed to put weight on the same parts of my hand. The different positions also felt really close together and didn’t change my body geo in a significant way. The brakes/shifters are way too close together, affording little control. I probably could have played with other parts of my bike to make them work better, but I just didn’t feel inspired to. I have since replaced these with the VO Crazy Bar and am much happier.
