Enterprise Rim Wheel Build

The wheel build went perfect, well almost. Turned out the hub was bad, so it had to be re-laced with a new hub. The rim was still perfect.

Enterprise Polished Rim - 5 stars!

I wanted to ride these for a while before leaving a review. After riding them for a couple of months on both smooth and bumpy urban roads, I can say they are great! I wanted a polished rim and these are so nicely finished. Before building the wheel, I laid the rim on a flat surface to see if they were flat from the factory, and they were. It made building and truing very easy. I also like that they are just a bit wider than my old rims, but still fit very well in the brake calipers. Exactly what I wanted, a reliable polished rim. Thanks Velo Orange!

It Seams to me

I have used Enterprise rims on several bikes, 700s and 650s using VO and Sturmey Archer hubs. They go together beautifully. The seam or weld (opposite the valve hole) presents a problem. They can either flare or flatten just a bit . It makes the braking surface not quite perfect. This does happen on most rims from the tubulars I built in the 70s and 80s (Super Champion, Mavic, Weinmann) to the wheels I build now (VO & Sun Rims). I will continue to use VO rims . . . and I sense a new build coming on!

Mostly Great

Beautiful rims - one fly in the ointment. The joint is pinned, not welded. One of the two rims had a bulge at the joint, such that the (rim) brake caught in an unsafe manner. I rigged up smooth covers for a bench vise and gave the joint a gentle squeeze and it is now acceptable.

Sorry you had that problem, Jon! We'll bring this up at our next product meeting.
